In 2005 the Arthrisis Society for Ankylosing Spondylitis instituted the Bechterew Award to encourage scientific efforts about the illness. The prize is awarded for something extra within the field. The prize is the sum of DKK 30.000 and is awarded annually.
In 2008 the Bechterew Award was given to Susanne Juhl Pedersen, MD, who is a resident at the department of Rheumatology at Herlev Hospital, Denmark. Susanne Juhl Pedersen was awarded the prize for her PhD-project “New methods in diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of spondylarthritis”. The purpose of the project was to identify possible biochemical markers for inflammation, cartilage and skeletal regeneration.
To apply for the Bechterew award, submit the application in four copies, written personally.
Attach project budget, and copies of the protocol to the Research Ethics Committee, with the application.
