Slow onset of action arthritis drugs, often referred to as DMARDs (Slow-acting Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs), is a group of medicine that primarily inhibit the inflammation in swollen joints of the arms and legs. It does, however, not have an effect on the pain. The most commonly used drug in this group is sulfasalazin, which is also available under the name Salazopyrin.
Treatment with slow onset of action arthritis drugs may affect the liver and the bone marrow. Frequent blood tests are therefore necessary.
