The Danish Ankylosing Spondylitis Society was founded in 1973 and it holds 1200 members. The purpose for the society is to support the patients by increasing the knowledge about the illness among the members, relatives, healthcare providers and authorities.
The society is organised together with ten districts which cover the entire population in Denmark, including a district organisation on the Faroe Islands. A national meeting is held annually. The Danish Ankylosing Spondylitis Society publishes the MB news paper, which is distributed four times per year. The society is also actively involved in research for which the Bechterew prize is awarded. Furthermore, the society is a part of an international cooperation with other ankylosing spondylitis patient societies, ASIF.
